Ultra Pigalert
GD Engineering DSP Pig Detector
PIG Detection made easy and reliable.
The GD Engineering Ultra Pigalert™ accurately registers the
passage of all types of pigs in real time and transmits a signal
to the operator. It also indicates the amount of debris pushed
ahead by the pig during pipeline cleaning operations.
GD Engineering pig detection systems have been successfully tested
and used by a large number of clients for many years, and this latest
model makes the system even more compact and reliable.
The Sensor
The sensor is mounted in a hermetically sealed stainless steel housing
and is clamped to the external surface of the pipe through which
the pig is passing. The unit is certified according to EEx ia IIB and
can be operated at pipe-wall temperatures in the range of -40°C to
180°C. Several sensors can be connected to a single computer for
real-time measurements. The sensor can also be supplied as
EEx"d". The sensor transmits an RS485 or 4-20mA signal to the
control system or a dedicated computer in a safe area.
Field Lamp/Reset Button
The sensor is supplied with an indicator lamp that lights when the
pig has passed, and a re-set button to reset the sensor.
Cabling
The system uses twisted pair cabling for power and signal
transmission (RS485).
Wide-Ranging Applications
The Ultra Pigalert™ can be used on pipelines, offshore platforms
and FPSO's, in all pressure classes. It is also suitable for use where
there is a very sour gas service and corrosive or high viscosity fluids.
GD's portable and compact Ultra Pigalert™ is ideal for monitoring
the progress of any pig during maintenance operations. The nonintrusive
method used for installation means that it will not interrupt
the flow in your pipelines. The potential hazard of extraction under
high pressure for servicing is also completely eliminated.
The GD Ultra Pigalert™ combines state-of-the-art acoustic
monitoring technology with quick and simple installation. A passive
ultrasonic/acoustic device, it detects the background noise generated
by all types of pig including sphere and foam at speeds as low as
0.5 metres per second. The signaller is non-intrusive which means
it can be used safely in any location even out-board of ESDV's
on offshore platforms.
Approved Ultrasound Sensor
Acoustic sensors conform to CENELEC European standards
for electrical equipment operating in hazardous environments.
They are used to detect the ultrasound which is generated as the
pig travels inside the pipeline. The traveller does not therefore
need to be fitted with any signal emitting device.
All field electronics are sealed in an epoxy resin for protection
and then mounted in a rigid stainless steel housing.
Installation
The Ultra Pigalert™ is a versatile unit which can be fitted to
pipelines of varying diameter by means of a universal clamp.
The only requirement is that it must make bare metal contact
with the pipeline in order to function correctly, therefore pipeline
wrapping and coating must be removed in this area prior to
installation. (Only a diameter of 10mm needs to be removed.)
Flexibility In-service
The Ultra Pigalert™ is able to operate effectively regardless
of pipe wall thickness, and can resist temperature variations
of -40°C to 180°C.
